Burning Permits
The Bayport Fire Department, the township's fire service provider, reports that they have been receiving some complaints about unauthorized burning. Minnesota's Open Burning Law states that burning permits are required for any non-recreational fire that is larger than 3' in diameter. Burning permits may be obtained by contacting the Bayport Fire Department, at 439-6992.Please leave your Home Phone Number, rather than your work number. Matt Bell makes his calls in the evenings to take care of these permits.
Permits require an on-site inspection and cost $20.00 (same as Lake Elmo and Oak Park Heights), so requests should be made a few days in advance of any burning. A violation of this law can be charged as a misdemeanor, which could carry a fine up to $700.00.
